Video games have long inspired film adaptations, but unfortunately these adaptations are not always successful.

Many movies based on games fail to capture the essence of the characters, stories, and worlds of the original games, leading to productions that are criticized by fans and critics alike.

Street Fighter: The Final Battle (1994)

This movie is one of the worst examples of a game adaptation for the cinema. The mistakes started by changing the protagonists Ryu and Ken by Guile, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in one of the worst performances of his career.

Also, the adaptation of the game's characters was terrible, with Ryu and Ken using weapons and Mister Bison appearing thin.

Other changes like Honda ceasing to be Chinese and Guile without his badass top brass didn't help either. The only positive point of the film was the performance of Raúl Juliá like Mister Bison.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)

This adaptation of Mortal Kombat was a total disappointment to anyone who is a fan of the games. Shao Kahn was malnourished, Sheeva was deplorable and Motaro He looked like he was wearing a costume bought at the street vendor.

In that sense, the actors' performances were terrible, looking like they were given a cracker as payment.

Super Mario Bros. (1993)

Super Mario Bros. (1993)

This movie is considered by many to be one of the worst game-based movies of all time.

The game characters were poorly adapted, with Mario and Luigi being interpreted by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, but with strange, plumber-uniform-like outfits. The story had nothing to do with the game and was a total failure.

House of the Dead (2003)

House of the Dead (2003)

This movie is based on the first-person shooter game of the same name and was directed by Uwe Boll, who is known for directing bad movies based on games.

The movie had terrible acting, a nonsensical script, and a story that had nothing to do with the game. The result was a disastrous movie that disappointed fans of the game.

Likewise, these movies made serious mistakes in terms of character adaptation, story, acting, and fidelity to the original games.

All in all, these movies are an example of how difficult it is to adapt a game to film, and how important it is to respect the original game elements in order for the adaptation to be successful.
